Alstom Ecotecnia signs a frame agreement to supply wind turbines to Iberdrola Renewables
Alstom's wind activity Ecotècnia today announced the signing of a frame agreement to supply around 300 MWe of wind turbines to Iberdrola Renewables, marking Alstom's first large agreement of this kind in wind energy since it acquired Ecotècnia in November 2007.

Vattenfall will build CCS demonstration plant in Jänschwalde
Vattenfall will build a demonstration plant for CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) technology at one of the 500 MW blocks of the conventional lignite power plant Jänschwalde in the State of Brandenburg, Germany.

Gemma Power wins $340m contract for natural gas plant
Gemma Power Systems signed an engineering, procurement and construction agreement (EPC) with Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) for an approximately $340 million contract to design and build a natural gas-fired, 640 MW combined cycle power plant in California.

SUEZ Energy makes gas-fired acquisition
SUEZ Energy North America said it bought a 30.45 percent equity interest in the 575 MW Astoria Energy Power Plant from SCS Energy.

Duke Energy buys 16 MW of solar
Duke Energy Carolinas said it will buy the entire electricity output of a 16 MW photovoltaic solar farm scheduled to be built just north of Charlotte, N.C.

Iberinco to upgrade power grid in Mexican states
Spanish engineering and construction firm Iberdrola Ingenieria y Construccion has won a contract in Mexico, from the country's Federal Electricity Commission, to strengthen the electricity infrastructure of the Veracruz and Oaxaca states, for a total of $11.4m.

Honeywell, Wood Group roll out turbine control system
Honeywell said it joined with Wood Group Turbine Control Services to offer a turbine control system that, in conjunction with the Experion Process Knowledge System, is designed to automate power plants.

AMSC provides 200 MW wind grid support
American Superconductor Corporation said it will supply its D-VAR solution for grid interconnection to wind farms using wind power systems from three different global wind turbine manufacturers in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Suez wins Brazil hydro contract
A consortium led by Suez, the Franco-Belgian water and energy utility, has won a licence to build and operate the second of two controversial hydroelectric power stations on the River Madeira on the eastern edge of the Brazilian Amazon.

Sharp, Enel in Italian solar power venture
Enel and Japan's Sharp will join forces on solar power generation, aiming for a total output capacity of 161 MW by the end of 2011, Italy's largest power company said in a statement.
