Brazil to build two hydro plants with Argentina and Bolivia
Brazil has decided in principle to build two hydropower plants along its borders with Bolivia and Argentina, the country's energy minister said.

Siemens-led consortium to build CHP plant in Mainz
Siemens has announced that a consortium led by it, and consisting of Austrian Energy & Environment and Japanese firm IHI, will build a coal fired combined heat and power plant in Mainz, Germany, for Mainz-Wiesbaden.

Panda Energy Inc. said it plans to build, own and operate a 500 MW combined-cycle power plant in Sherman, Texas.

ABB wins $21m order from Eskom in South Africa
Power and automation technology group ABB, has won an order valued at $21m from Eskom, South Africa's national electricity provider, for series capacitor banks at Serumula on the Beta-Delphi 400kV transmission line, and Iziko on the Hydra-Poseidon 400kV transmission line.

GE Energy has agreed to supply Invenergy Wind LLC with 750 MW of wind turbines in a deal worth over $1 billion.

NRC OKs uprate for Vogtle nuclear power plant
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved Southern Co.'s request to increase the generating capacity of the Vogtle nuclear power plant in Georgia by 1.7 percent. The power uprate will increase Vogtle Unit 1 from about 1,109 MW to 1,174 MW, and Unit 2 from about 1,127 MW to 1,173 MW.

Key contracts finalized for large CCGT project in Portugal
Independent power producer International Power plc, together with its project partner Endesa, has signed both the offtake and EPC contacts, and successfully completed the financing for the new 830 MW CCGT Elecgas project in Portugal.

RWE receives approval for hard coal plant in Germany
RWE Power has been given approval by the Arnsberg regional government to build a new two-unit hard-coal power plant in Hamm, Germany, as part of its ongoing power plant investment programme.
