SCE to conduct feasibility study on advanced coal facility
Southern California Edison received approval to conduct a $50 million feasibility study of a clean hydrogen power generation facility combining several advanced coal technologies at full commercial scale.

Iberdrola takes pole position in global wind power ownership
Spanish utility Iberdrola has overtaken FPL Energy to become the global leader in wind power plant ownership in 2007 with over 6.9 GW under net ownership, according to Emerging Energy Research, a research and advisory company.

EIA outlook sees slower power sector growth
The Energy Information Administration said in its Short Term Energy Outlook released April 8 that it expects total natural gas consumption to increase by 1.0 percent in 2008 and by 0.8 percent in 2009. EIA said that milder summer temperatures are expected to leave natural gas consumption for electricity generation unchanged in 2008, after an increase of more than 10 percent in 2007.

Enel CEO says Italy could build nuclear plant in seven years
Italy could build a nuclear power plant in just seven years if the country uses a site already destined for such purposes in the past, said Fulvio Conti, CEO of the electricity generator Enel, in an interview with La Repubblica.

Transmission for Texas wind power could cost $3-9bn
The Texas electric grid operator said the price tag to build new power lines to bring wind power to the state's biggest cities could range from $3 billion to $9 billion, in a report filed with state regulators.

E.ON enters UK carbon capture & storage competition
E.ON has entered into the United Kingdom's government's carbon capture and storage (CCS) competition to get funding for its Kingsnorth coal-fired project in Kent, the company said in a statement.

U.S. nuclear generation hits record level
The U.S. nuclear industry supplied a record 806.5 billion kWh of electricity in 2007. National total nuclear generation was 2.4 percent higher than in 2006, and 2.3 percent higher than in the previous record year, 2004.

Southern Nuclear files for COL
Southern Nuclear Operating Co. filed an application with the NRC for a COL for the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant in Georgia.
