New Greenpeace report labels carbon capture and storage a "scam"

HSBC bank to invest $240m in UK renewable projects

B&W to supply scrubbers to Maryland plants
Babcock & Wilcox Generation Group Inc. said it has been awarded a $150 million contract to design and supply four wet flue gas desulfurization units to three Maryland coal-fired power plants.

Fortum and TGC-1 agree on Russia's largest trade of CO2 'emission reduction units'
Fortum has signed an agreement that will see the Finnish organization purchase approximately 5m tonnes of emission reduction units (ERU) from the Russian Territorial Generating Company No. 1 (TGC-1).

Alstom and Dow in CO2 capture venture
Alstom and The Dow Chemical Co. announced a joint development and commercialization agreement for advanced amine scrubbing technology for the removal of CO2 from low pressure flue gases produced by fossil fuel-fired power plants and other major industries.

1,000 MW coal plant receives Ohio air permit
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a final air permit for the 1,000 MW, $2.5 billion coal-fired American Municipal Power Letart Falls station.

EPA mercury rule tossed out by court
A U.S. court ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency must reconsider a decision to allow coal-fired power plants to swap rights to emit toxic mercury. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled that the EPA violated the Clean Air Act in 2005 when it exempted coal plants from the strictest emission controls.

Luminant details emission plan for two coal-fired plants
Luminant said its Martin Lake plant will install in-duct selective catalytic reduction systems at each of its units and that its Monticello plant will install selective non-catalytic reduction systems at each of its units for nitrogen oxide (NOX) reduction. One unit at Monticello will also have its low-NOX burner technology improved to further reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.

London gives backing to geopressure energy
UK energy minister Malcolm Wicks has announced his government's support for electricity generated from geopressure.
