SCE&G to buy long-lead items for new nuclear plant
South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. reached an agreement with Westinghouse Electric Co. and The Shaw Group Inc. authorizing the purchase of long-lead-time materials for up to two new Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear electric generating units.

Australia's Babcock & Brown to sell European wind farms
Babcock & Brown, the Australian infrastructure investor, is planning to sell its European wind farms in a deal that could be worth between €3.5bn ($5.5bn) and €4bn, according to the Financial Times.

Application filed for South Carolina nuclear power plant
South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. and Santee Cooper submitted an application with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for a combined construction and operating license (COL), which, once approved, would authorize the companies to build and operate up to two new nuclear electric generating units at the utilities' existing V.C. Summer Nuclear Station.

E.ON to buy Enel, Endesa assets for €11.8bn
E.ON has approved an agreement on the valuation of a portfolio of power generation assets, which it will take over from Spain's Endesa and Italy's Enel.

Russia power producer OGK-1 to be sold April 17
Russian electricity producer OGK-1 will be sold on April 17 in a deal expected to be worth about $7bn.

French and Russian firms to buy WGC-1
A report in today's Moscow Times says that Electricité de France (EDF) and a Russian firm controlled by former Unified Energy System executive Mikhail Abyzov will jointly buy power producer WGC-1 after no other bidders came forward.

SWEPCO receives approval for 600 MW coal-fired plant
The Louisiana Public Service Commission has approved a request by Southwestern Electric Power Co., a unit of American Electric Power, to build a 600 MW coal-fired power plant in southwest Arkansas for around $2,230/kW. The plant could enter commercial service in late summer 2012.

NRG forms unit to develop nuclear power projects
NRG Energy Inc. has formed Nuclear Innovation North America LLC, a company focused on marketing, siting, developing, financing and investing in new advanced design nuclear projects in select markets across North America, including the planned South Texas Project (STP) units 3 and 4 that NRG is developing with San Antonio, Texas' CPS Energy.

AES "positioned" for Brasiliana buyout
US power company AES is "positioned" to acquire Brazilian federal development bank BNDES's 49.99 per cent stake in power holding company Brasiliana, AES Brasil CFO Alexandre Inneco told a webcast.

Centrica said to be mulling £10bn British Energy bid
UK electricity and gas utility Centrica has been reported to be examining a £10bn ($20bn) bid for British Energy.
