The UK's second biggest gas and electricity supplier, Scottish and Southern Energy, warned the power industry stood on the brink of radical change.

E.ON and Czech Coal to suspend power plant negotiations
German utility major E.ON and mining company Czech Coal are expected to halt negotiations over building a joint venture coal-fired plant in the northern part of the Czech Republic, over concerns regarding Czech Coal's ongoing dispute with power generator, CEZ, according to Thomson Financial.

Union Pacific must cut coal rates for KC utility
Federal regulators ordered Union Pacific Corp. to lower the rates it charges the Kansas City Power and Light Co. for delivering Wyoming coal to a power plant in Missouri, according to the Associated Press. The Surface Transportation Board ordered the new rate to apply to all deliveries since 2006. The new lower rate will continue through 2015.

IES buys TGK-7, plans to give control to Gazprom
Integrated Energy Systems (IES) has bought control of Russia's Territorial Generating Company No. 7 (TGK-7) from Russia's former electricity monopoly Unified Energy System (UES).

National Grid considers move in Germany
National Grid would look at a move into Germany by buying E.ON's electricity transmission business, its chief executive said, but he added there was "a lot to do" before it could think about making an offer.
