Black Hills unit to build 150 MW gas plant
Black Hills Corp. said it signed a 20-year power purchase agreement to provide electric power to Public Service Company of New Mexico via a 149 MW, simple-cycle gas turbine generation facility to be built near Albuquerque, N.M.

Enmax plans 1,200 MW gas plant for Alberta
Alberta-based Enmax Corp. said it is building a 1,200 MW gas-fired power plant in Southern Alberta. Published reports said the $2 billion (Canadian) plant would boost the provincial grid's reliability after Alberta's expansion into wind energy made it vulnerable to power disruption.

Minnesota Power to develop 25 MW wind farm
Minnesota Power plans to build, own and operate the proposed $50 million, 25 MW Minnesota Power Taconite Ridge I Energy Center in northern Minnesota.

Siemens receives $180m South Korea plant order
Siemens has secured an order from state-owned Korea Midland Power to supply key components for a combined cycle power plant in Incheon in the vicinity of the capital Seoul.

Alstom wins Vietnam CCGT supply contract
Alstom is to supply power island equipment to a 460 MW combined-cycle gas turbine power plant being built in Nhon Trach district, southern Dong Nai Province, near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Dominion unit proposes 300 MW peakers
Dominion Virginia Power, a unit of Dominion, proposed building new generating units and a high-voltage transmission line to serve the increasing demand for electricity in Northern Virginia.

Aquila plans $150M peaking plant
Aquila Inc. said it plans to build a 300 MW gas-fired power plant in Sedalia, MO. The proposed $150 million energy center would have three to four power-generating turbine units. Construction could start in mid-2008 and take approximately a year to complete.

Wyoming coal gasification project partnership announced
The Wyoming Infrastructure Authority Board of Directors and PacifiCorp entered into a public-private partnership to develop an integrated gasification combined cycle power plant.

Dutch inaugurate first major offshore wind farm
The Netherlands has inaugurated Nuon's $271m offshore wind power project in the North Sea that will provide enough power to light 100 000 homes.

Florida Power & Light Company presented its case to build an advanced clean coal technology power plant today in a need hearing before the Florida Public Service Commission.
