Calpine unit secures project financing
Calpine Corp. said that Greenfield Energy Centre LP, which is currently constructing a 1,005 MW natural gas-fired, combined-cycle electric generating plant in Ontario, Canada, has obtained $650 million in non-recourse project financing.

Fortis to build new hydroelectric generation in Belize
Becol, an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis Inc, has announced that it has received all major approvals for construction of a $52.5 million 18-MW hydroelectric generating facility at Vaca on the Macal River in Belize.

GenPower Holdings LP broke ground for the 695 MW, $1 billion coal-fired Longview Power Plant project in West Virginia.

Cliffside estimate rises to $3,000/kW
Duke Energy Carolinas said it expects its proposed 800 MW Cliffside unit to cost $2.4 billion, including financing expenses, or $3,000/kW.

AES expands wind generation operations to 1,000 MW in the US
The AES Corporation said that it is expanding its wind generation business in the US through the acquisition of two wind farm projects totaling 186 MW from GE Energy Financial Services.
