Abu Dhabi's newest independent power plant project has started commercial operation adding 1500 MW and 110 000 tons a day of desalinated water. The Umm Al Nar plant is operated by Arabian power Company, owned jointly by Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Mitsui & Co. and International Power.

EPRI has appointed Foster Wheeler to carry out a feasibility and optimization study covering thirty IGCC designs as part of EPRI's Coal Fleet for Tomorrow Program.

Irish energy player Bord Gais has appointed a GE/GAMA consortium to provide the key equipment and to build its new 440 MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant at Whitegate in Cork, Ireland.
