UK government backs new flexible power plant
The UK government has approved the construction of a new £400m ($792m) gas fired power station in Newport, South Wales but approval is conditional on certain environmental add-ons being possible.

Consortium wins contract to build large-scale geothermal plant in Indonesia
A consortium has signed an agreement to construct the Sarulla geothermal project, located in Tapanuli Utara, north Sumatra, Indonesia. The plant will consist of three phases of between 110MW and 120MW each, and will be constructed over the next five years.

Spanish Grupo Ibereolica has signed an agreement with Clean Hydrogen Producers (CHP) of Switzerland, outlining the planning, permitting and appraisal of CHP's Solar Water Cracker technology in Spain and Mexico.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mitsubishi Cooperation to undertake, with immediate effect, a feasibility study for a 300 MW combined power plant in Kerawalapitiya reports ColomboPage, a Sri Lankan online newspaper.

Siemens ships wind turbine blades from new U.S. factory
The first wind turbine blades manufactured at Siemens' new blade factory in Fort Madison, Iowa, left the facility August 14. The blades for the SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines are bound for the Sweetwater Wind Farm, west of Abilene, Texas.
