Canadian Solar and Ra Solar Espana complete a 2.8 MW Spanish solar farm Project
Canadian Solar Inc. and Ra Solar Espana has held the official opening of a 2.8 MW solar farm project in Albacore, Spain.

GE, Bechtel to collaborate on new polygeneration facility
GE Energy and Bechtel signed a project development agreement with TransCanada Corp. to develop the first polygeneration facility in Canada.

Siemens wins Balearics-Spanish mainland connection contract
The Power Transmission and Distribution Group (PTD) of Siemens has won a contract from Spanish network operator Red Electrica de Espana to connect the Balearic Islands to the Spanish mainland's power network.

GE Energy commits to $750m deal to supply gas turbines for EdF
Under agreements totalling more than $750m, GE Energy will supply six advanced technology, Frame 9FB gas turbine-generators and associated services to EdF for the utility's electrical power production facilities in France and elsewhere in Europe.

Morocco receives $187m loan from Islamic bank for gas power plant
The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has signed a loan agreement with Morocco's National Electricity Office (ONE) worth 1.5bn dirham ($187m) to finance the construction of a 300 MW gas powered electricity plant in Mohammedia, according to official sources.

Horizon Wind Energy has signed a contract for 400 MW of wind turbine capacity with Suzlon Wind Energy Corp.

Tampa Electric scraps IGCC coal plant
Tampa Electric said it no longer plans to meet its 2013 need for baseload generation through the use of integrated gasification combined-cycle technology, IGCC. Primary drivers of the decision include continued uncertainty related to carbon dioxide regulations, particularly capture and sequestration issues, and the potential for related project cost increases.

Iberdrola and Mitsui to build solar thermal plant in Egypt
Egypt's National Renewable Energies Authority has signed a contract under which the engineering unit of Spanish utility Iberdrola and Japanese firm Mitsui will build a turnkey 150 MW solar thermal generating plant in Kuraymat, Egypt, at a cost of €150m ($212m).

Norway's Statkraft to build world's first osmotic power plant
Norwegian power company Statkraft has decided to build the world's first prototype osmotic power plant adding it was also stepping up its initiatives to develop the technology further.
