Susquehanna 2 completes outage
Unit 2 at PPL's Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Luzerne County, Pa., resumed generating electricity after successfully completing a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage. During the outage workers replaced about 40 percent of the reactor's uranium fuel, upgraded some major plant components to prepare for a planned future increase in generating capacity and completed other planned maintenance jobs.

Japan's power generation hits record for third straight year
The total amount of electric power generated by ten major Japanese power companies hit a record high in fiscal 2006 for the third straight year, according to industry data.

British Energy lines up legal action against Credit Suisse
UK utility British Energy has started legal procedures against Swiss financial services group Credit Suisse regarding the latter's stake in British Energy's Eggborough coal fired power station.

IP&L OKs super-critical technology for 600 MW plant
Interstate Power and Light Co. will use super-critical pulverized coal boiler technology at its new 600 MW generation facility planned for Marshalltown, Iowa.

TXU says sorry for plant closing threat
Michael McCall, CEO of TXU Wholesale, apologized Friday for "creating any perception of threatening to shut down power plants in Texas."

Energy East to upgrade hydroelectric plants
Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. plans to invest more than $20 million over the next three years in its Station 2 and Station 5 hydroelectric plants on the Genesee River in Rochester. The investment will result in additional generating capacity of 9 MW at the two plants that currently have a combined generating capacity of approximately 49 MW.

Boost to UK domestic microgeneration sector
The UK government has launched a consultation, which recommends that consumers will no longer need to apply for planning permission to put microgeneration devices such as solar panels and wind turbines on their homes.

AmerenUE to seek nuclear plant permit
AmerenUE will work with UniStar Nuclear to take the first step to apply for a license to build and operate a new nuclear plant, the company said.
