Pennwell acquires renewable energy web site
PennWell Corporation announced that it has acquired a 51 percent interest in iCommerce & Marketing L.L.C., which operates RenewableEnergyAccess.com, an online-only publication and business-to-business community for renewable energy.

Dominion to apply for 1,520 MW nuke plant
Dominion Resources Inc. is the third company to file a complete application to federal regulators to build a new nuclear reactor. Dominion's application was submitted Tuesday to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

MoU signed for 400 MW wind farm in Egypt
The Italcementi Group of Italy, through its subsidiary Italgen, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Ministry for Energy and Electricity, which creates the opportunity to create a major wind farm in the district of Gabal El Zeit, on the Red Sea coast.

B&W announces corporate realignment
The Babcock & Wilcox Companies is shortening its name to The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) and is reorganizing its operations into four groups including a newly formed nuclear power group. A company statement said the re-alignment will better support the changing requirements of B&W customers and strengthen the company's position in the nuclear and fossil power generation industry and in national security operations.

Renewables and gas will drive Europe's power sector growth: new research
According to new research by investment bank Société Générale (SG), Europe's installed electricity generation capacity is set to grow by 2 per cent a year to 2010, reaching 845 GW, with renewable energy and gas fired power plants driving the growth.

Arkansas OKs AEP's proposed Turk coal power plant
Arkansas utility regulators approved of American Electric Power Co's proposal to build a $1.3 billion, 600-MW John W Turk Jr. coal-fired power plant in Fulton, Arkansas.

Turkey and Iran sign joint power project agreement
The AFP news agency has reported that Turkey has signed an agreement with Iran for a number of joint power production projects despite American pressure against investment in the Islamic republic.

NRC says OK to Dominion early site permit
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission authorized its Office of New Reactors to issue an Early Site Permit (ESP) to Dominion Nuclear North Anna, LLC for the North Anna ESP site near Louisa, Va.

Belarus announces $10bn power grid upgrade by 2011
President Alexander Lukashenko has approved a comprehensive programme, developed by the government, to upgrade the fixed assets of the Belarusian power grid between now and 2011.
