National Grid proposes methods for a low-carbon energy market
UK electricity network operator National Grid has outlined a number of proposals that it believes would help to facilitate a low-carbon energy market in the region.

Power from wind farms will contribute a large portion of the effort to meet European Union's (EU) goal of obtaining 20 per cent of its electricity from renewable resources by 2020, delegates were told at the European Wind Energy Conference in Milan.

Vattenfall plans to halve carbon emissions
Swedish utility Vattenfall has announced plans to cut emissions of carbon dioxide from its generation fleet by half that of 1990 levels by 2030.

EPC contractors chosen for Gainesville emissions system
Babcock Power Inc. subsidiary Babcock Power Environmental Inc. and CH2M Hill will team up for the engineering, procurement, construction and startup of a new emissions control system for the Gainesville Regional Utilities Deerhaven Unit #2 Power Plant in Florida.

Ottawa signals emissions break for oil sands
Canada's government reportedly plans to exempt new projects in Alberta's oil sands region from greenhouse gas emission targets until three years after they are up and running.

TVA notes green market slowdown
The Tennessee Valley Authority said it sold 69 percent of its green power from March 2006 to February 2007, according to a spokesman quoted by the Associated Press. The AP called it a reversal from previous years when TVA sold all of its renewable energy output.

PSE&G floats plan for $100M solar loan program
New Jersey utility PSE&G said it will earmark approximately $100 million over the next two years to help finance the installation of as much as 30 MW of solar systems on homes, businesses and municipal buildings throughout its service area.

Penn. wind energy pact signed
The Pennsylvania Game Commission signed what it called "cooperative, voluntary" agreements with 12 companies to avoid, minimize and potentially mitigate any adverse impacts the development of wind energy may have on the state's wildlife.

NRG Energy tests CO2 recycling process
NRG Energy, Inc. and GreenFuel Technologies Corporation ae beginning to field test GreenFuel's emissions-to-biofuels technology at NRG's Big Cajun II - a 1,489 MW coal-fueled power plant in New Roads, LA.
