Xcel proposes mercury control at Sherco and King
Xcel Energy told Minnesota state regulators it plans to control mercury emissions at Sherburne County (Sherco) Generating Plant Unit 3 and the Allen S. King Plant by installing and operating a sorbent injection system.

B&W achieves oxy-combustion milestone
The Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group said it burned coal in full oxygen-combustion mode at a 30 MWth scale during recent testing at its Clean Environment Development Facility in Alliance, Ohio. The facility operated in full oxygen-coal combustion mode for over 250 hours as it burned more than 500 tons of bituminous coal.

Australia ratifies Kyoto Protocol
Australian Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd became the country's 26th prime minister on Monday and immediately began dismantling the former government's policies by ratifying the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.
