Puget Sound Energy selects projects to increase power supplies by 25 percent
Puget Sound Energy, the utility subsidiary of Puget Energy, which serves more than 1 million electric customers and 700,000 natural gas customers in Washington state, recently announced the company is pursuing the acquisition of up to approximately 1,100 MW of long-term power supply from seven outside sources.

Alstom to build supercritical coal plant in Missouri
Alstom has been awarded a contract for the engineering, design and construction of the boiler and air quality control equipment for a new 850 MW advanced high-efficiency coal-fired power plant for US utility Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L). This contract is worth $700m.

Verbund and Salzburg AG to construct new Salzach power plant
The boards of Austrian utilities Verbund and Salzburg AG have agreed to construct the new 76.5 MW Salzach hydropower plant at Werfen/Pfarrwerfen in joint venture.

Ameren announces scrubber contract with Hitachi Power Systems America
Ameren Corporation announced Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Hitachi Power Systems America, Ltd. to design and supply scrubbers at three of its coal fired plants to help meet new state and federal standards for sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions.

AEP and I&M sign power supply contract with Wabash Valley Power Association
American Electric Power and its operating unit Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) have entered into a 20-year agreement with Wabash Valley Power Association (Wabash) to provide wholesale power to serve Wabash's member cooperatives.

Westar Energy announced Tuesday that it has chosen a location in Lyon County, Kansas, as the site for a new natural gas-fired combustion turbine peaking power plant.

Alstom wins air pollution control contract from East Kentucky
Alstom has been awarded a contract by East Kentucky Power Cooperative to supply emissions control systems for its H.L. Spurlock Power Station, Unit 2, located near Maysville, Kentucky USA. The order is valued at around €100m ($129m).

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has received an order for a set of replacement control rod drive mechanisms (CRDM) for nuclear reactors from Ringhals AB of Sweden.
