Abu Dhabi power & water privitization garners $1bn
The Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has attracted Dh38bn ($1.04bn) through its privatisation programme so far, the Director of the Privatisation Directorate, Abdullah Al Nuaimi, said at a press conference to mark the opening of POWER-GEN Middle East last week.

Bangladesh faces power shortfall
Bangladesh risks a power shortage in the coming months officials have warned. Load shedding of around 700 MW is normal but this may rise to 1500 MW in peak season if large power-producing units trip under a heat wave.

UK consults on energy policy

Iraq needs $20bn over the next five years to solve a chronic electricity crisis after US reconstruction funds failed to flick the right switches, the Iraqi electricity minister said.

Russian nuclear power plants up their electricity output
Russia's nuclear power plants brought their annual electricity production to 147.6 billion kWh in 2005, a 3.2 per cent increase year-on-year, the state-owned company operating the facilities said Wednesday.

Gazprom restricts supplies to Moscow generators
Russian monopoly gas supplier Gazprom have introduced restrictions on gas supplies to a number of power generating stations in Moscow by 50 per cent, according to RAO UES. Moscow is currently experiencing one of its bitterest winters for years and emergency measures are in place to maintain services.

China tops the 500 GW mark
The installed generating capacity of China has now reached over 500 GW, ranking it second only to the USA in the world. This is a rise of over 70 GW since 2004 year end figures.
