TXU plans $10 billion investment in future power projects

NRC approves extended operation of North Carolina plant
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued its final environmental impact statement on the proposed renewal of the operating licenses for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Units 1 and 2 near Wilmington, N.C.

DOE to fund studies to produce hydrogen at nuclear power plants
Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman announced that the U.S. Department of Energy will allocate up to $1.6 million this year to fund industry studies on the best ways to utilize energy from existing commercial nuclear reactors for production of hydrogen in a safe and environmentally-sound manner.
