Black & Veatch, KU develop remote engineering courses
University of Kansas Continuing Education and Black & Veatch Corp. have agreed to develop courses in engineering management for Black & Veatch's employees in a long distance learning program.

E.ON and Gazprom today signed contracts in Moscow concerning the delivery of approx. 400 billion m3 of gas up to 2036. This is an important contribution towards safeguarding long-term European gas supplies.

Peter Leupp to head ABB Power Systems division
ABB announced today that Peter Leupp, country manager of ABB in China, has been appointed to the Group Executive Committee as head of the Power Systems division. He replaces Samir Brikho who leaves ABB on October 1, 2006 to become chief executive of AMEC PLC, the UK-listed engineering and construction firm.

Texas hearing panel rules against environmental permitting for TXU lignite plant
Several Texas-based newspapers are reporting this morning that a state hearing panel recommended that the Texas Commission on Environmental Air Quality reject TXU Corp.'s request for an air quality permit for the Oak Grove lignite-fired power plant the company plans to build southeast of Waco.

Indonesia and Malaysia plan to complete a cross-border transmission line by 2009 at a cost of $38.5m.

DuPont launches new photovoltaic solar panel materials
To meet the needs of the fast-growing photovoltaic solar energy market, DuPont today announced a production expansion of DuPont Tedlar polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) film. The new facility, with an estimated investment of $50 million, is scheduled for completion by 2007.

Dynegy to join Illinois initiative to reduce mercury and other emissions
Dynegy Inc. has agreed to join with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in advancing a revised regulatory proposal that would significantly reduce mercury emissions and make further reductions in emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter from the company's Illinois power generation facilities.

China to invest in natural gas hydrates
China, the world's second-biggest energy consumer, plans to spend 800 million yuan ($100m) over the next ten years to study next-generation fuel, called natural gas hydrates, that could ease the nation's increasing reliance on oil imports in the long run.
