IBERDROLA enters U.S. market, acquires Community Energy
IBERDROLA, headquartered in Madrid, Spain, and Community Energy, Inc., a U.S. wind energy marketing and development company, announced a merger agreement in which CEI will be acquired by IBERDROLA.

Enel completes Slovakian acquisition
The closing documents for the Italian power company Enel's acquisition of 66 per cent of Slovakia's Slovenske Elektrarne (SE) have been signed in Bratislava. The agreement includes a €2bn ($2.5bn) investment package for the Slovakian power infrastructure.

El Paso Corp. closes sale of Macae Power Facility for $358 million
El Paso Corp. announced that it has closed on the previously announced sale of its interest in the Macae power plant in Brazil to Petrobras for approximately $358 million.

Powerspan to test mercury removal technology
Powerspan Corp. and Ameren Corp. announced plans to pilot test a new mercury removal process at Ameren's Rush Island Power Plant in Jefferson County, Missouri.

Bouygues to takeover state interest in Alstom
Engineering group Alstom yesterday signed a framework agreement with fellow French company Bouygues in respect of operational and commercial cooperation. Construction group Bouygues plans to strengthen this partnership by buying the stake of 21.03 per cent held by the French government since July 2004.

Coal plant in Wales to be sold for $214m
The owners of a 360 MW coal fired power plant in Wales are to sell their interest for a figure over four times that which they paid for it just two years ago, in what is the latest deal to signal a burgeoning market for UK coal stations.

Babcock & Brown to acquire NorthWestern for $2.2 billion
The Board of Directors of NorthWestern Corp. announced that the company has reached a definitive agreement with Babcock & Brown Infrastructure under which BBI will acquire NorthWestern in an all-cash transaction at $37 per share, valuing the Company at $2.2 billion.

E.ON receives EC approval for Endesa bid
E.ON has received antitrust approval from the European Commission for its €29.1bn ($36bn) bid for Endesa, that was announced in February earlier this year.

AES sells part of Chilean unit
AES Corporation yesterday announced the completion of the sale of approximately 7.6 per cent of its shares in AES Gener, the second largest power generation company in Chile to a group of Chilean and international institutional investors for approximately $123m. AES Gener has a market capitalization of $1.6bn.

Invensys to provide upgrades for three Constellation Energy units
Constellation Energy has selected Invensys Process Systems for new simulation software for three Baltimore, Md. area generating units. The new software will enhance and integrate control simulation, aid in controls verification and checkout, and improve plant operator training and engineering analysis.
