Southern California gets more power
Calpine Corporation's Pastoria Energy Center has begun operation and is now supporting the energy-scarce Southern California market with 250 MW of electricity. Next month, Phase II will be completed, bringing a combined total of 750 MW to Southern California in time for peak summer power demand.

Iberdrola becomes the largest wind farm owner in the world
Spanish utility Iberdrola has surpassed US powerhouse FPL Energy as the largest wind farm owner in the world, after record expansion of wind plant ownership to nearly 2950 MW in 2004, according to the latest rankings from Emerging Energy Research (EER).
