Dabhol revival company named Ratnagiri
The Special Purpose Vehicle floated by GAIL (India) Ltd and National Thermal Power Corp to revive the 2184 MW Dabhol power plant has been named 'Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt Ltd'.

Mirant's sale of Wrightsville power plant for $85m approved
Mirant announced Tuesday that it has received approval from the US Bankruptcy Court to sell its Wrightsville Power Plant to Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation for $85m.

Indonesian power plant start delayed
The operation of a new gas fired power plant in Panaran on the island of Batam west of Sumatra, Indonesia operated by Dalle Energy, will be delayed until October, 2005 due to financial problems.

Saudi first IPP goes on stream
Saudi Arabia's National Power Company (NPC) announced Monday that the first Independent Power Plant (IPP) in Saudi Arabia had gone into commercial operation.

New sustainable energy fund established in Bangkok
A new €50m ($60m) sustainable energy investment fund is to be established in Bangkok. The Private Energy Market Fund 2 (PEMF2) aims to provide services and investment capital to enterprises and projects that generate renewable energy, enhance energy efficiency, and offer energy services in the Asian region.

Bechtel may follow GE in Dabhol settlement
US Bechtel Corporation, the majority stakeholder in the Dabhol Power Company, is reportedly looking to settle claims from the controversial power project in Mumbai within the week. This follows the decision by fellow-investor General Electric (GE) to agree a settlement in the 2184 MW project.

Serbia agrees power increase compromise
Serbian power consumers will face an average 9 5 per cent increase in electricity bills from today following a government decision to raise the price by 8.8 per cent. The power production authority said today that the average price per kilowatt was now about €0.03 although, according to the World Bank, it should be 10 to 12 per cent higher than this.

Big future for clean coal
Coal-based fuels will be a major energy source in the coming years with clean coal technologies coming to the fore, predicted Gerald Doucet, secretary general of the World Energy Council (WEC), speaking at the Keynote Session of POWER-GEN Europe in Milan last week.

Russia and China agree power cooperation
The Chairman of the Management Board of RAO "UES of Russia" Anatoly Chubais and the Director General of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) Liu Zhenya signed an Agreement Friday on long-term cooperation between RAO "UES of Russia" and the SGCC. The official ceremony to sign the Agreement took place today in the Kremlin in the presence of Russia's President Vladimir Putin and PRC Chairman Hu Jingtao.

France Halts Power Sales to Germany
Although only a few weeks into summer, unusually hot weather in southern Europe has resulted in France stopping its export of electric power to Germany. Bernhard Fischer, management board member of E.ON AG unit E.ON Energie AG, confirmed power deliveries from France have stopped but said he does not expect Germany will experience a power blackout.
