Russian power reform timetable slips
Anatoly Chubais, the CEO of Russia's power monopoly RAO UES said this week that while the power reform was progressing well it was moving slower than had been planned.

PPL Chairman backs greater deregulation
The chairman of US utility PPL Corporation said Monday that deregulation has resulted in significant benefits for American electricity users and that policymakers should continue to encourage the use of market forces to reduce electricity prices and to promote construction of new generating facilities.

Serbia plans market liberalization
Serbia is planning to begin the liberalization of its electricity market within the next three months, Alain Deriaz of Balkan Energy Solutions told a Rome conference Wednesday.

RAO UES ends moratorium on assets sales
The board of directors of Russian power monopoly RAO UES of Russia has passed a procedure for distributing funds from the sale of the company's core assets, reports daily newspaper Kommersant. Assets are being sold as part of a wide-ranging reform programme that will see the break-up of the monopoly and a separation of generating and network assets.

ADWEA plans to divest its distribution interests
Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has plans to off-load its shareholding in the two distribution companies-Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) and Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC), through the capital market to benefit the UAE nationals.

Privatization of Bahrain electricity gains pace
