ADWEA agree Taweelah B financing
The Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has this week finalized the financial backing for its Taweelah B independent power and water project. A group of local, regional and international banks and financial institutions are involved in the financing of the Dh11bn ($3bn) deal over a period of 20 years.

Endesa bolsters finances
Endesa has signed a €2bn ($2.6bn) syndicated loan - the largest ever for the Spanish ulility. The company has also renewed the terms of its €3.758bn long-term liquidity with 13 banks.

Shell and Bechtel to sell
Shell and Bechtel are to sell InterGen and ten of its power plants to a partnership between AIG Highstar Capital II and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan for $1.75bn.

Retail partnership established between International Power and Energy Australia
International Power and EnergyAustralia will establish a retail power partnership after International Power agreed to pay £24.4m ($46.3m) for a 50 per cent stake.

BNFL could sell Westinghouse
The British government could sell Westinghouse, the nuclear firm owned by British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL), according to the company's chief executive, Steve Tritch.

Alliant settles with Cat-Leo over expansion fall-out
Alliant Energy will receive $20.4m from in return for its 50 per cent interest in a Brazilian power plant after the International Court of Arbitration decided that Cat-Leo Energia, the generation subsidiary of Cataquazes, had breached its contract.

Constellation agrees to sell 680 MW Oleander
Constellation Energy has agreed to sell its Oleander power plant in Cocoa, Florida to subsidiaries of Southern Company, for just over $200m.

VRB Power acquires global right to battery technology
Canadian firm VRB Power Systems said Thursday it had completed the transaction with its now previous subsidiary Pinnacle VRB Ltd. (Pinnacle) to acquire outright, world-wide patents to the VRB technology except for the Australian based patents, which will remain with Pinnacle. The transaction simplifies the position for VRB, which can now develop its Vanadium Redox Battery Energy Storage System worldwide.

Areva offers to buy Alstom T & D interests in India
The nuclear technology company Areva is to acquire fellow French firm Alstom's transmission and distribution business in India for Rs806m ($18.4m) and has made an open offer for buying 20 per cent stake from Alstom's shareholders at Rs75.03 per share.

NRC approval paves way for CenterPoint exit
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has granted approval for CenterPoint Energy to complete the second phase of selling its power generation company, Texas Genco Holdings, to a consortium of private equity investors known as Texas Genco LLC.
