FERC Approves Exelon/PSEG Merger
The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has given its approval to a proposed merger of Chicaco-based Exelon and Newark, N. J.-based Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) that would create the largest electric utility company the United States.

Calpine agrees to sell its oil and gas properties for $1.05 billion
Calpine Corp. announced today that it has agreed to sell all of its domestic oil and gas exploration and production assets for $1.05 billion, less transaction fees and expenses. The sale is scheduled to close on July 7, 2005.

TransCanada Sells Indonesian Power Plant Interest
TransCanada Corp. today announced an agreement to sell its approximate 11 percent interest in PT Paiton Energy Co. to subsidiaries of The Tokyo Electric Power Co. for approximately US $103 million (approximately CDN $127 million). Paiton Energy owns two 615 MW coal-fired power plants in East Java, Indonesia.

El Paso to sell Chinese power interests
US utility El Paso Corporation announced yesterday that it is selling its interests in its four power plants located in China to GP China Limited for approximately $71m.

IFM wins tussle for Pacific Hydro
Spanish renewable energy company Acciona SA said today that it will accept IFM's offer to buy its shares in Australian energy producer Pacific Hydro.

Mirant and Creditors file lawsuit against Southern Co
Mirant Corp. and the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Mirant Corp. (the "Mirant Corp. Committee") in its bankruptcy proceeding announced that they have filed a lawsuit against Mirant's former parent company, Southern Company , seeking recovery of at least $2bn in connection with transfers made to Southern prior to Southern's spin-off of Mirant in April 2001.

Pacific Hydro receives unconditional takeover bid
Industry Funds Management (IFM) has stepped up the pressure on the Spanish renewable energy company Acciona for the takeover of Australian power firm Pacific Hydro.

ADWEA outsources IT services
The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Injazat Data Systems awarding Injazat a ten year IT outsourcing services deal to manage all of ADWEA's information technology requirements.

Shaw joins nuclear consortium targeting China
The Shaw Group Inc. has announced that its Shaw Stone & Webster unit has joined the Westinghouse Electric Company and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries AP1000 Consortium, which is currently proposing to provide the nuclear island, including the AP1000 reactor and technology transfer, for four nuclear generating units in China.

Southern Company purchases Florida power plant
Southern Company announced Wednesday that it has completed the purchase from Constellation Energy of a 680 MW dual-fuelled simple-cycle generating plant in Cocoa, Florida, for $206m plus certain closing costs and adjustments.
