$1.2bn invested to link KSA, Kuwait and Bahrain's power grids
The cost for the first phase of a GCC project to link electric grids of each of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain has reached $1.2bn, GCC Assistant Secretary-General for economic affairs Mohammad Bin Obeid Al-Mazroie has announced.

VA Tech Hydro to refurbish Swift
VA Tech Hydro, a company of the listed VA Tech, has been awarded the Swift No.2 Power Plant refurbishment project by Public Utility District (PUD) No.1 of Cowlitz County, Washington, USA.

Additional order for VA Tech T&D in Albania
VA Tech Transmission and Distribution (VA Tech T&D) has received an order from the Albanian electric supply company Korporata Elektroenergjetike Shqiptare (Kesh) worth an estimated €3m ($3.7m).

Kepco to build plant in Java
Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco) will implement its $350 m investment project to build a 740 MW gas fired plant in Cilegon, West Java, Indonesia.

Vattenfall and TeliaSonera jointly revolutionize electricity metering in Finland
Two years from now, all of Vattenfall's 360 000 network customers in Finland will have their electricity consumption metered in practically real time. The new TeliaSonera electricity metering system that is being introduced allows for automatic remote reading of the customer's electricity meter.

SNC Lavalin appointed to GCC grid project
The grid interconnection authority for the GCC states (GCCIA) has appointed Canada's SNC Lavalin to provide consultancy services and has approved the list of prequalifiers for the first phase of the GCC power grid project.

Suncor, EHN, Enbridge propose wind power project for Ontario
A joint venture of Suncor Energy Inc., Enbridge Inc., and EHN Wind Power Canada Inc., a unit of Corporacion Energia Hidroeléctrica de Navarra SA of Spain, has submitted to the Ontario government a proposal to build a 75 MW wind-power project near Ripley, Ont.

GE 6FA for Indian plant extension
Bharat Heavy Electricals, Ltd. (BHEL) of Hyderabad, India will supply a GE Frame 6FA gas turbine and additional equipment for the Dhuvuran Power Project Phase-II in Gujarat, India.

Wärtsilä gains two power plant orders in Mexico
Wärtsilä has received two orders for power plants in Mexico. Both are combined heat and power (CHP) plants giving a total output of approx. 32 MW and will be supplied as turnkey contracts.

Gas engine plants will lower power costs in Japan
Japan's Hitachi Zosen Corporation has earlier this year ordered 20 gas engine power generation units from Wärtsilä, Finland. Hitachi Zosen is the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor for a series of over 10 power plants which will be situated at different locations across Japan.
