Alstom wins €700m contract with its GT26
Alstom is to supply four GT26 sequential gas turbines as part of a turnkey contract placed by Mitsui & Co. Ltd, Japan and the power plant's owner and operator, Gulf Power Generation Co. Ltd.

Huaneng signs 5-year coal deal
Huaneng Power International, Inc. has signed a medium to long-term coal supply agreement with Shanxi Jincheng Anthracite Mining Group Co., Ltd.

China-led group wins $107m transmission contract
The Shenyang Transformer Group Co has won an 850m yuan ($102.7m) contract to supply 20 sets of 500 kV transformers to the second-round direct current power transmission and transformation project linking China's Guizhou and Guangdong province.

Chile grid operator sells 27 bid rules for two contracts
Chile's central grid operator CDEC-SIC has sold 27 packages of bidding rules for two contracts to build and operate a second 220kV line between Charrúa and Temuco in the central-south region of the country and upgrade a substation in Temuco, according to Business News Americas.

DEWA awards H station extension to Siemens and Bemco
A consortium of Germany's Siemens and Arabian Bemco Contracting of Saudi Arabia has won the contract for the 400 MW extension of the Al-Aweer H station in Dubai. The contract, awarded by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) is worth AED 801m ($218m).

Thomassen Turbine Systems wins $8m contract
Dutch-based Thomassen Turbine Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Calpine Corporation, has announced that it has received an order from the Israel Electric Corporation Ltd (IEC) to convert and modify four Frame 9E machines located in the Haifa-area of Israel.

Pakistan set to approve power projects of $2.2bn
Pakistan's Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) is due to meet next week and is likely to approve power projects worth Rs130bn ($2.2bn), according to local media reports.

Constellation NewEnergy has finalised an electricity purchase contract valued in excess of $100m with Priority Power Management, a Texas based, independent energy management and consulting services firm.

US Postal Service plans Bay Area renewable power plant
In the next phase of its national programme to optimize efficiency and conserve natural resources, the US Postal Service (USPS) announced Wednesday that Chevron Energy Solutions will complete major energy efficiency upgrades and a hybrid renewable power plant -- including a fuel cell and two solar electric technologies -- at the USPS's largest processing and distribution facilities in San Francisco.

GE Energy and Calpine to build first H System plant in US
US power company Calpine Corporation has signed a letter of intent with GE Energy for the joint construction of the world's first power plant based on the 60-hertz version of GE's most advanced gas turbine technology, the H System. The announcement was made today on the opening day of Power-Gen International 2004 conference & Exhibition in Orlando.
