Vietnam puts largest private gas fired power into operation
Vietnam's Prime Minister Phan Van Khai on Saturday pressed an electric button to start the operation of Phu My gas-fuelled power plant in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

Idaho Power selects Plateau Systems to manage enterprise-wide learning and enhance employee performance
Plateau Systems, a provider of enterprise software that manages learning and knowledge readiness, announced that Idaho Power, a subsidiary of IDACORP, Inc., an energy and technology holding company, has selected Plateau 4 Learning Management System (LMS) to manage all of its web-based and classroom learning for employees in 17 power plants and 80 franchise cities.

Areva T&D wins €124m turnkey contract in Dubai
Areva's Transmission and Distribution Division (T&D) has won its biggest ever contract in the Persian Gulf region, for the construction of two high-voltage turnkey substations.

Alstom wins two orders for air pollution control systems in France for over €230m
Alstom has won two separate orders to supply air pollution control systems for power plants in France with a combined order value in excess of €230m ($284m). The orders have been awarded by Electricité de France (EDF) and LA SNET, an independent power producer owned by Endesa, EDF and Charbonnages de France.

Alstom awarded contract for refurbishment of hydroelectric powerplant in Canada
Alstom has signed a contract with Hydro-Québec to refurbish four turbine generator sets at the Outardes-4 hydroelectric power plant in northern Quebec. The contract is worth around €30m ( $37m).

Russian-based company Power Machines Group has announced that it has signed a contract to deliver equipment to the Dibis Thermal Power Plant in Iraq.

TXU Energy will retire eight power plant units due to electric industry market conditions in Texas, for a total of 1,421 MW in capacity.

APS to construct solar trough power plant
APS has broken ground on Arizona's first commercial solar trough power plant, the first such facility constructed in the United States since 1988.

INEEL designing prototype system for Yucca Mountain repository
The U.S. DOE's INEEL laboratory is designing a prototype remote-controlled system that will permanently close the waste packages of spent nuclear fuel for final disposal.
