Areva T & D awarded €70m UAE contract
Areva's Transmission and Distribution division has just been awarded a €70m ($82.6m) contract from the United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Electricity and Water for the design and installation of a new high-voltage substation located in Dhaid.

Emcor to build cogen facility for New Hampshire University
Emcor Group's Energy & Technologies (EE&T) division has been selected by the University of New Hampshire (UNH) to help boost its energy independence through the development of a cooling, heat and power plant project at the main campus in Durham.

Fluor to assist Progress Energy with environmental retrofits
Fluor Corporation announced Wednesday that it has been selected by Progress Energy to provide installation services for its North Carolina Clean Smokestacks programme. In addition, Fluor will provide some procurement services in support of the program.

UAE signs deals for national power grid
Humaid bin Nasir Al Owais, UAE Minister of Electricity and Water, signed 12 May in Dubai a number of contracts with international and local power companies to commence the national power grid project.

ABB helps to improve London Underground's power supply

Fuel-Tech N.V. announces alliance with Duke Power
Fuel-Tech N.V., a provider of advanced engineering solutions for the optimization of combustion systems and production facilities for utility and industrial customers, today announced the signing of an Alliance Agreement with Duke Power for the supply of NOxOUT Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) systems and related services for multiple units at as many as six coal-fired generating stations over the next four years.

GE Energy to supply gas turbines for Alberta oil sands project
GE Energy gas turbines have been selected for an integrated gasification/cogeneration plant being constructed near Fort McMurray, Alberta as part of the Long Lake Project, the fourth major integrated-oil sands project in Alberta.

Vietnam to build hydro power In Son La Province
Vietnam's Son La Province authorities are committed to clearing the site and resettling households to begin construction of the 2400 MW hydroelectric Son La Hydro-electric plant ahead of schedule, said provincial People's Committee Chairman Ha Hung.

GE to refurbish Fortum hydro turbines
Fortum Generation AB of Stockholm has awarded GE Energy two contracts totalling nearly $3.5 million for major turbine refurbishment projects at two hydroelectric power plants in Sweden.
