Taipower to build 1600 MW power plant
Taiwan's Council for Economic Planning and Development agreed on Monday a plan by state-owned Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) to invest NT$50bn ($1.42bn) in building an 800 MW power plant in Changhua, central Taiwan.

GE completes Californian hydro upgrade
GE Energy recently completed a controls upgrade and retrofit for Northern California Power Agency's (NCPA) Collierville hydro plant in Vallecito, Calif. The upgrades were part of a program to help NCPA become certified for providing spin, non-spin and regulation ancillary services products to the California Independent System Operator (CA ISO).

ScottishPower announces £400m plan to rewire Scotland
ScottishPower has announced a £400m ($735m) plan to upgrade high-voltage transmission lines as part of the Government's initiative to rewire the UK for renewable energy.

Wärtsilä supplies two power plant extensions to Taiwan
Wärtsilä will supply two turnkey power plant extensions, totalling 65 MW, to the Lungtan factory of Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd (CPT) in Taiwan to meet the increased power demands of CPT's new production facilities.

Eskom backs Congo hydro project
South Africa's Eskom utility is giving its backing to vast hydroelectric power project on the Congo River. The state-owned firm is planning to work with its counterparts in Botswana, Namibia, Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo in a scheme to rehabilitate and upgrade the Inga plant near the river's mouth.

GE Energy supplies turbines for Indian wind project
Marking its first wind turbine project in India, GE Energy is supplying 18 GE 1.5 MW units for the Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd. Wind Power Project. With construction being executed in three phases in Karnataka State, South India, the project will total 27 MW when completed by the end of this year.

Lawrenceburg Energy Project begins commercial operation
PSEG Power has completed construction of the Lawrenceburg (Indiana) Energy Project and the 1096 MW natural gas-fired, combined cycle plant has begun commercial operation.

Northern Power Systems awarded $6.0m turnkey power system project
Northern Power Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Distributed Energy Systems Corp. has been selected by SC Johnson to engineer, build, and commission a $6.0m turnkey combined heat and power (CHP) system that will provide critical load support for manufacturing operations at the company's Waxdale Plant in Racine, Wisconsin.

Reliant Energy completes $10m Higley Hydropower Plant redevelopment
Reliant Energy has completed the $10m major redevelopment of its Higley Hydropower Plant, located on the Raquette River in Colton, New York, St. Lawrence County. The company marked this milestone with a dedication ceremony at the power plant.

$100m contracts awarded to Italian and American companies for power generation in Iraq
Two power generation contracts with ceilings of $100m for power generation operation in Iraq have been awarded to an Italian company and an American company.
