JBIC provides loan for power project in Mexico
The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has signed a loan agreement totalling $210m with Electricidad Sol de Tuxpan (EST), a company in which Mitsubishi Corporation and Kyushyu Electric Power Co. have joint stakes. Using this loan, EST will construct a natural gas-fired combined-cycle thermal power plant with a 495 MW capacity in Tuxpan, State of Veracruz, 250km northeast of the capital Mexico City.

ABB wins contracts worth $85m in Algeria
ABB announced Thursday it had won contracts worth $85m for three projects to upgrade Algeria's power grid.

Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority awards Intergraph $4.3m contract
Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions today announced Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority PREPA) has signed a contract valued at $4.3m with Intergraph for additional services involved in the roll-out of its Geospatial Resource Management (GRM) system.

Plug Power awarded $1.8m contract by the US Department of Defence
Plug Power Inc. was recently awarded a $1.8m contract by the U.S. Department of Defence for the Common Core Power Production Programme.

US-Turkish consortium awarded $170m Al Samra power plant project
Jordan's state-run Central Electricity Generating Company on Sunday awarded the 300 MW Al Samra power plant project to a consortium comprising the US Black and Veatch Company and the Turkish GAMA Power Systems Company at a cost of around $170m, according to the company's Director General Abdul Fattah Nsour.

Siemens Westinghouse wins contracts from Etevensa in Peru
Siemens Westinghouse (SWPC) has signed a contract with Etevensa to convert one combustion turbine (CT) from a simple cycle to a 1x1 combined cycle in order to provide more efficient electricity generation for Peru.

International Power to offer equity in Omani Al Kamil power plant via IPO
International Power reports that its wholly owned subsidiary Al Kamil Power Company (AKPC), which owns the 285 Al Kamil plant in Oman, will issue a prospectus for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of 35 per cent of the Company's equity on Tuesday 27 July 2004.

Siemens wins gas turbine orders worth €120m for Saudi Arabia
Siemens Power Generation (PG) has received orders for projects in Saudi Arabia totaling approximately €120m ($149m). Siemens PG will build a turnkey gas turbine power plant for Saudi Electricity Company (SEC-COA) Central in Riyadh. In addition, National Contracting Company (NCC) in Al Khobar, a leading power plant construction company in Saudi Arabia, ordered three gas turbines that will be used to expand two existing gas turbine power plants in Bisha and Asir on behalf of SEC South.

Tractebel consortium wins the Sohar IWPP in the Sultanate of Oman
Tractebel Electricity & Gas International (TEGI), a business division of Suez - Tractebel S.A, has been selected to design, build, own, operate and maintain the greenfield Sohar Independent Water and Power project in Oman. The project consists of a 585MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbines plant and a 33 million imperial gallons a day (6250 cubic meters per hour) water desalination plant.

VA Tech Hydro wins contract to modernize Swiss power plant
VA Tech Hydro, a subsidiary of the listed company VA Technologie AG, has won the contract to modernize the electro-mechanical equipment at the Küblis power plant in Switzerland.
