GE secures world's largest wind turbine order
GE Energy has been selected to supply up to 660 wind turbines, totaling 990 MW of wind-generated electricity, for eight projects in Quebec to be placed on line between years 2006 and 2012. An announcement by Hydro-Québec Monday marked the largest single award for new wind generation capacity in the history of the global wind energy industry.

New coal-fired power plant to be built in Indonesia
The regional administration of East Nusatenggara (NTT) is planning to build a coal fired power plant in Bolok, Kupang district.

Civil works have got off the ground for the UAE-wide power grid and its master design is being finalised, according to a top industry official.

First methanol fuel cell launched in Germany
Vattenfall announced today that a methanol fuelled HotModule fuel cell had been installed in its Treptow combined heat and power (CHP) station and has been integrated into the district heating network. The electricity it generates is fed into the national grid.

Turbo Genset wins Toronto contract
Turbo Genset Inc. has been awarded a contract worth £3.4m ($6.1m) to design and manufacture Low Voltage Power Supply and Inverter Units for the Toronto Transit Commission.

Kvaerner Power wins power boiler contracts in the Americas
Kvaerner Power, part of the Aker Kvaerner group, has signed a contract of three power boilers for corn processing plant in the USA and contracts for a power boiler and modernization of an existing power boiler for two pulp mills in Chile. The orders are worth in excess of €50m ($61.5m).

IBM secures Italian metering deal
ASM Brescia, an Italian multi-utility company and IBM have signed a $32m five-year agreement for an integrated, automated electricity meter management solution that will transform ASM Brescia's service offerings through the remote management of both electricity distribution and other services provided to over 200,000 customers.

Peterborough firm steams ahead down under
Peterborough engineering company Peter Brotherhood Ltd has won a contract to supply a £3m ($5.4m) steam turbine and cooling tower for a green power plant in Australia, thanks to UK Trade & Investment, the government organisation that provides support services for UK companies trading overseas.

NREL selects contractor for new science & technology facility
The US Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has signed a subcontract with the M. A. Mortenson Company to build the Laboratory's first major new facility in a decade, the Science & Technology Facility.

Areva T&D to build UK's first high-voltage offshore substation
Areva's Transmission and Distribution division (T&D) has just won a contract in the region of €12m ($14.7m) to design, manufacture and install the UK's first offshore high-voltage substation.
