World first technology increases small-scale generation
The world's first Ecobulb units have been commissioned in Paullo, Italy after trials increased energy generation by ten per cent. STE Energy have contracted VA Tech Hydro, a company of VA Tech, for two 1 MW units, each with a runner diameter of 2600 mm and a nominal speed of 150 rpm.

Enel set to acquire Slovenské Elektrarne
Enel has announced that negotiations with the Slovakian government for the purchase of a stake in the country's main power producer have reached a positive conclusion.

Duke Energy sells New Mexico facility
Duke Energy has sold its Luna merchant project to PNM Resources, Tucson Electric Power and Phelps Dodge Corporation for $40m. Duke's 2004 divestiture target has now been significantly exceeded as total asset sales have so far generated $3.1bn in proceeds.

GCC plans $40bn in power and water projects
A new report by the Emirates Industrial Bank indicates that some 35 new water desalination and power projects involving a total investment of Dh40bn ($11bn) are planned in the GCC countries.

Technology and expertise shared between US and Korean firms
