One trillion dollars to be invested in coal-fired power generation by 2020
A major shift in the choice of fuels for the power generators of the world could result in investment of over one trillion dollars in coal-fired generation plants between 2004 and 2020.

FuelCell energy reports first quarter 2004 results
FuelCell Energy, Inc. reported a net loss for the first quarter of fiscal 2004 of $27.9m or $0.59 per basic and diluted share, which includes a one time charge of $12.2m or $0.26 per basic and diluted share related to purchased in-process research and development from its acquisition of Global Thermoelectric Inc.

Power plant needs to grow to 90 GW By 2020 as consumption surges
According to "Tehran Times", the managing director of the Energy Ministry's Energy Conservation Organization said that Iran will need about 90 GW power plants by 2020.

JBIC signs loan to support power supply in Kenya
The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has signed an ODA loan agreement with Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited in Nairobi. The loan agreement, amounting to 10 554bn yen ($95m), is the second phase of the March 1997 loan for the Sondu/Miriu Hydropower Project II.

The Brazilian Senate on Thursday approved a bill that would impose new rules on the ailing electricity sector, hoping to both keep a lid on energy prices and attract badly needed investment.

PLN to save $1.27bn in power production costs
State-owned electricity company PLN said it will save around Rp10.7tn ($1.27bn) in production cost when three power plants being built come on line in 2005 and 2006.
