US study says investment in T & D could reduce power prices
A recent study carried out by ICF Consulting study and sponsored by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co, shows that targeted investments in transmission, in conjunction with the right mix of generation, could reduce the wholesale costs of power by 1.5 times its costs.

South Korea plans $213m spend on green energy research
South Korea will invest a total of 250bn won ($213m) in developing renewable energy such as solar, wind and hydro-cell energy over the next five years, the commerce ministry said today.

Peabody Energy signs three utilities to invest in coal-fired plant
Peabody Energy Co. has signed up three electric utilities to invest in a large coal-fired power plant in Washington Township, Ill. The utilities will have a one-third interest in the $2bn plant and will use about one-third of the electricity.

Brascan to buy Reliant's NY plants for $900m
Canadian conglomerate Brascan Corp. on Tuesday said it agreed to buy 71 hydroelectric power plants and a co-generation plant in New York from Reliant Energy Inc. for $900m in cash.

The Pakistan government wants to attract maximum foreign investment in the energy sector, especially in hydroelectric projects, as huge potential still lies in this sector in the country, according to the managing director of Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB), Zafar Ali Khan.
