Australian mine project to convert gas emissions to electricity
A new ventilation project in New South Wales is expected to reduce a mine's greenhouse gas output by converting emissions to electricity. The A$13m ($8.98m) project by BHP Billiton Illawarra Coal would process 20 per cent of available mine ventilation air at the West Cliff colliery to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 200 000 t of carbon dioxide equivalent a year.

France's Alstom looks to India for new business opportunities
French energy and transport major Alstom has decided to send a team to India to investigate possible business opportunities there. The ten member team will be led by Alstom's Executive Vice President, Phillipe Joubert.

Aquila expanding waste tyre burning programme
US power producer Aquila is expanding a programme that helps rid the Missouri landscape of waste car tyres by using them to generate electricity at the company's coal-fired power plants, a company official said Tuesday.

ISO takes key So-Cal power plant out of mothball
The California Independent System Operator (ISO) signed new contracts with Reliant Energy to take two key generating units out of mothball in time to help meet reliability needs this summer, and also in the fall when a key transmission line goes out of service and other generating units will be off line for maintenance. The Etiwanda power plant, units 3 and 4, located in San Bernardino, can each produce 320 MW.
