Suffolk University's Frank Sagan Energy Research Lab begins hydrogen generation, fuel cell demonstration
Students and faculty in Suffolk's physics department are completing the first setup and test phase of a project to gauge how well all the pieces of their customized fuel cell system work together.

ADA-ES and Dominion Ash enter technology and marketing agreement
ADA-ES, Inc., a subsidiary of Earth Sciences, Inc. has entered into an agreement with Dominion Ash CCP Ltd., a provider of complete fly ash solutions to coal-fired power plants, to further develop and market Dominion's patent pending microwave technology.

Irish to build large onshore windfarm
The Irish government has given state-owned peat supplier Bord na Mona and its partner Hibernian Wind Power (HWP) the green light to build a 300 MW onshore wind farm in the western Irish county of Mayo.

New generation unit to provide 800 MW of power to New England
Exelon Generation announced Thursday that Fore River Generating Station located in Weymouth, Mass. has begun commercial operations. Fore River is an 800-megawatt natural gas combined cycle unit.

TVA, Westinghouse announce nuclear fuel contract
The Tennessee Valley Authority has selected Westinghouse Electric Company to provide additional nuclear fuel fabrication services for four additional regions of fuel for the Watts Bar nuclear plant in Spring City, Tenn.

Mitsubishi wins steam turbine order from Egypt
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Tomen Corporation have received a roughly 8bn yen ($66.37m) order for two steam turbines from an Egyptian government-affiliated electric power company.

Abu Dhabi invites tenders for latest IWPP
The Abu Dhabi Water and electricity Authority (Adwea) today put out to tender the latest of its independent power and water projects (IWPP) at Al Mirfa. The announcement of the new 600-700 MW facility continues the Emirate's policy of privatization within its power sector and is Abu Dhabi's fifth IWPP.

Vietnam planning foreign power plant investment in Laos
Vietnam is currently planning its first large-scale foreign investment, a hydro-electric plant in Laos' Sekong Province. The 210 MW plant will be built and funded by the Vietnam-Laos Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, with capital of $232m.

US agrees grant for Sri Lanka power plant
The US government has provided a grant of $560 000 to fund a 300 MW coal-fired power plant in Sri Lanka, according to local news reports.
