Regulators approve Phase 2 of Wisconsin Energy Corp.'s Power the Future proposal
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission on Thursday discussed the major issues in the application of Wisconsin Energy Corporation (WEC) to build a coal-fired power plant at its Elm Road generating station in Oak Creek.

TransCanada and Grandview Cogeneration to build 90 MW cogeneration plant
TransCanada Corp. and Grandview Cogeneration Corp. announced they have reached an agreement to build a 90 MW natural gas-fired cogeneration power plant in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Alstom wins hydro generator orders in Italy
Alstom has recently been awarded three orders by Enel S.p.A, Italy for the supply of six generators for their hydro power plants at Bussolengo, Gallicano and Rovesca in Italy. The combined value of these orders is approximately €10m ($11.7m).

GE Hydro to rewind generator at California power station
GE Hydro has received a contract from Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) to rewind one of two generators at the Middle Fork Powerhouse, a hydro station on the Middle Fork American River in Placer County, California.

Endesa starts up the first gas turbine of Tenerife's CCGT and the second one of Gran Canaria's CCGT
Endesa has started up the first of three gas turbines that will shape the new Tenerife CCGT located in the Granadilla Thermal Plant; as well as the second gas turbine of the new Gran Canaria's CCGT located in the Barranco de Tirajana Thermal Plant.

Mirant and Pepco reach settlement on electricity supply contracts
Mirant and Pepco Holdings Inc. Monday announced that they have reached a settlement agreement to restructure two power purchase agreements under review for potential rejection as part of Mirant's bankruptcy case.

California ISO approves $22 million transmission project in San Diego area
The California Independent System Operator has approved a $22 million project to upgrade the transmission grid in the San Diego area.

China plans 2000 MW nuclear power plant
China will build one new nuclear power plant with an installed capacity of 2000 MW at the mid-eastern coast of Zhejiang Province, according to Kang Rixin, general manager of China Nuclear Industry Group Corporation. He said that with its fine economic and geographical conditions, it is expected to become China's biggest nuclear power base.
