Plant launch boosts Jordanian industrial zone
The supply of electricity to the Jordanian International Industrial Zone of Aqaba for secured with the official start of operation of a 160 MVA capacity transformer station, according to a senior government spokesman. The zone has a considerable need for electricity said National Electrical Power Company (NEPCO) Director General Ahmad Hiyasat.

Brussels clears Austrian power grouping
Austria's largest power generator Verbund and the partner companies of EnergieAllianz (EVN, Wien Energie, Energie AG Oberösterreich, BEWAG and Linz AG) were today granted permission by the European Competition Commission to form EnergieAllianz, a power trading company to cover the Austrian market.

PJM agrees $147.6m grid improvements
Regional Transmission Organisation, PJM Interconnection, the operation responsible for the Mid-Atlantic wholesale power market said Tuesday its board of managers has approved $147.6m in improvements to the region's network of high-voltage power lines.

Austria's Verbund to expand further into German energy market
Austria utility Verbund has confirmed German press reports that it intends to expand its position in Germany. A spokeswoman said that the expansion would be part of a plan to grow ten per cent each year.

U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan on Tuesday warned a congressional committee that the fragile economy could suffer from continuing high natural gas prices.

The U.S. Department of Energy will assist the state of Alaska in the first scientifically based study to determine when oil companies can transport equipment over the Arctic tundra without damaging the fragile ecosystem.
