US trade delegation backs power growth in Vietnam
USA Department of Commerce Deputy Assistant Secretary Kevin Murphy has expressed his hope that his country will play a considerable role in Vietnam's power projects.

The Union Light, Heat and Power Co., an affiliate of Cinergy Corp., announced it has filed an application with the Kentucky Public Service Commission for approval of a long-term electric supply plan for its Northern Kentucky service territory.

GE high-efficiency generator design validated
General Electric reports that a demonstration model for a new, High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) generator has been successfully tested. Building on GE's extensive research into HTS materials and generators, the development programme is leading to a higher efficiency generator capable of providing millions of dollars in energy savings.

EVN pledge to reduce transmission losses
Officials from Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) said the company would make every effort to reduce transmission losses from the company's current 13.4 per cent wastage record to 10 per cent by 2010. EVN is a state-owned utility established in 1995 engaged in generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in the whole country.

AECL Candu reactor enters commercial operation in China
Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), the developer and provider of CANDU technology world-wide has announced that its second CANDU reactor has gone into commercial operation at the Qinshan nuclear power plant, 125 km southwest of Shanghai providing 700 MW of power to the national grid.
