NRC's environmental assessment finds no significant impact from proposed Bleu project preparation facility
An environmental assessment by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has found no significant impact from a proposed Blended Low-Enriched Uranium (BLEU) Preparation Facility at the Nuclear Fuel Services Inc. (NFS) site in Erwin, Tennessee.

Reliant Resources' subsidiaries reach agreement with FERC on western market issues
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued an order Thursday approving an agreement with subsidiaries of Reliant Resources, Inc. to settle all inquiries, investigations, and proceedings instituted by FERC involving the company in connection with FERC's ongoing review of western energy markets.

FPL announces operating licenses renewed for St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant
Florida Power & Light Co. announced the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued operating licenses for the two units at the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant that will add 20 years to the original license period.

Southern Company starts operations at Florida CCGT
Southern Company announced Thursday that its Stanton A generating unit began commercial operation. The 630 MW generating unit near Orlando, Florida, is a joint development project of Southern Company, Orlando Utilities Commission Florida Municipal Power Agency, and Kissimmee Utility Authority.

UCTE to produce report on Italian blackouts
The Union for the Co-ordination of Electricity Transmission (UCTE), the association of transmission system operators in continental Europe, said Thursday it is to set up a Committee to investigate the Italian blackout. The committee will comprise all 5 directly involved Transmission System Operators (TSOs) in Italy, Switzerland, France, Austria, Slovenia as well as UCTE experts from non-involved TSOs.
