Alstom seals power plant contract in Abu Dhabi
Alstom has been awarded a contract to supply maintenance and reconditioning services for the 640 MW Ruwais Refinery gas-fired power and desalination plant in Abu Dhabi.

Bio power-plants bring green energy
Wärtsilä Biopower has its sights set on the world bio-energy markets. The company's aim is to be the first in the world to be able to offer small-sized combined general production and heating plants that use bio-fuel. There is a great deal of market potential and the first references speak for themselves.

Alstom wins air pollution control order in India
Alstom has received an order from Bharat Aluminium Co. Ltd. (BALCO) in India to supply emission control systems for their aluminium smelter plant. The new system will help BALCO meet the strict emission limits in force. The order is valued at about EUR22 million.

FAME extends data coverage for the North American gas and power markets
FAME Information Services Inc., a provider of historical and reference data management solutions for the energy, financial and public sector markets, has announced the release of ICE North American Gas and Power Indices via its EnergyScope and EnergyServer software solutions.

EU exempts coal mine methane derived power from Climate Change Levy
European Union state aid clearance has been granted for electricity generated from CMM to be exempt from CCL, according to Alkane Energy plc, a UK producer of Coal Mine Methane (CMM) from abandoned coal mines.

CERA names leading research executive to CEO post
Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) today named former Forrester Research senior executive Emily Nagle Green its new Chief Executive Officer. Green served as Managing Director of both Forrester Research Europe and Forrester Research North America. In both positions she led the business units.

BNFL trials Tc-99 removal process at Sellafield
BNFL said Tuesday it had begun the trial of a chemical removal process that may significantly reduce the discharges of the radionuclide Tc-99 from it Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant.

"Cautious optimism" describes U.S. winter heating fuel outlook
Heating fuel inventory levels are currently on track to reach normal or near-normal levels by the end of October, according to projections released recently by the Energy Information Administration in its October "Short-Term Energy Outlook".

S&P downgrades Elsam A/S on NESA acquisition announcement
Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today it placed its 'A/A-1' corporate credit rating on Denmark-based electric utility Elsam A/S on CreditWatch with negative implications in response to Elsam's announcement that it has reached an agreement to acquire a 78.8 per cent interest in Denmark-based electricity distributor NESA A/S for a cash consideration of Danish krone (Dkr) 8.27 billion ($1.31bn).

Morgan claims "Biomimetic" technology fuel cells breakthrough
A technology innovation by a British company promises to boost the power available from fuel cells, and bring down the manufacturing costs. Power increases of 16 per cent have already been achieved, and the research team say there is more to come. The development brings forward the day when fuel cells will be commercially viable for mass-market automotive and general power applications, say the developers, Morgan Fuel Cell (MFC).
