Judge announces settlement to end PG&E bankruptcy
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Randall J. Newsome announced Thursday that a proposed settlement agreement has been reached by the staff of the California Public Utilities Commission and Pacific Gas and Electric Company to end PG&E's bankruptcy.

Pakistan State-Run Electricity Sale by November
Pakistan's state-run Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) is set for privatization by November, according to a report by the official APP news agency.

Team will implement trial power market in East China 2004
Provinces in the east of China are scheduled to be the guinea pig for a form of regional power market set to commence in April 2004. China's State Electricity Regulatory Commission issued a circular on 2 June concerning the construction of an experimental power market in China's Shanghai, Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Anhui Province and Fujian Province.

Bulgaria set to sell disco stakes
A partial privatization of Bulgaria's power sector is planned next month when stakes in seven of the countries state-owned distribution utilities will be offered for sale. The sale was announced by the Energy Ministry on Thursday and is part of plans to liberalise the sector and boost its efficiency.

El Paso Corp. subsidiaries and California parties file settlement to resolve claims relating to Western energy crisis
El Paso Corp. and its subsidiaries have filed a settlement agreement with several California parties which would resolve two administrative decisions related to the energy crisis.

UK backs European energy liberalization laws
The decision on Wednesday by the European parliament to give final approval to measures introducing European energy liberalisation has been welcomed as "good news for British companies and consumers" by Britain's Energy minister, Brian Wilson.
