Con Edison says Sept. 11 response cost $400 million
New York's Consolidated Edison Inc. Thursday estimated its emergency response to the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center will cost $400 million. Con Edison said its insurers will cover an estimated $65 million of the costs. The company is seeking federal government reimbursement of the remaining costs.

BP starts tenth collaboration platform integration project with Vitria
Vitria, a collaboration platform and collaborative applications provider, today announced that BP has commenced its 10th integration project with Vitria.

Duke to slow power plant construction program
Duke Energy Corp. Thursday said it has slowed its power plant construction program and now expects to build 18,000 MW of generating capacity during the next 4 years, down from the 26,000 MW construction program previously reported. Group Vice-Pres. Harvey Padewar said 11 plants representing 6,000 MW will be completed this year.

FPL plans 1,900 MW of gas-fired generating capacity
Electric utility Florida Power & Light Co. proposed building 1,900 MW of combined cycle gas-fired capacity by 2005 to serve an additional 40,000 consumers and maintain a 20% reserve margin. FPL didn't say when it expected to begin construction or estimate the cost of the proposed plants.
