PG&E gets bankruptcy court approval to upgrade Path 15
A US bankruptcy court authorized Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to spend up to $75 million to help alleviate transmission constraints on so-called Path 15, a set of electrical transmission lines in the center of California, connecting the southern part of the state with northern California.

New Jersey Democrat calls for Wood's resignation from FERC
US Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-NJ) called on Texan Pat Wood III to resign as chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, citing his ties to Enron Corp. and its former chairman Ken Lay.

UK gas regulator: supply could be hurt if reforms don't happen
In a problem reminiscent of California's electricity difficulties, UK energy regulators proposed reforms to the wholesale gas markets after the national pipeline operator sustained losses in the daily balancing market. Nick Fincham, director of gas trading at the Office of the Gas and Electricity Markets, warned supply could be threatened, if reforms are not adopted. (Kate Thomas)

FERC commissioner proposes interagency energy markets task force
Government agencies that oversee various aspects of US energy markets should consider forming an interagency task force to monitor new business trends in the oil, gas, and electric markets, said Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioner Nora Brownell Friday.

Congressional witnesses advocate PUHCA repeal
A controversial 1930s era law that governs public utility holding companies should be repealed, witnesses testified in hearings before the US Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. Repeal of the Public Utility Holding Company Act (PUHCA) is included in a comprehensive energy bill (S 1766) sponsored by Senators Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), committee chairman, and Tom Daschle (D-SD).
