17 October 2008 - Vestas, a global manufacturer of wind power systems, has received an order for five units of its V90-3MW wind turbine for installation in the Ayyildiz project located in the Balikesir Province of Turkey.
The contract includes supply and installation of the turbines, the VestasOnline Business supervisory control and data acquisition solution, as well as a five-year service agreement.
With an estimated annual production capacity of approximately 57 GWh, the Ayyildiz wind power plant is expected to save the environment from almost 25 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide and meet the electricity needs of more than 9000 households.
The delivery of the turbines is scheduled to start in the first quarter of next year, and the project will be completed by the third quarter of 2009.
Vestas has also inaugurated a new factory for producing control system units in Olvega in the Spanish autonomous community of Castilla y Leon.
The company invested €10m ($13m) in the new installation. In five years, Vestas Control Systems has extended from 2700 m2 to a total of 28 000 m2 in Spain, including production, warehouse and offices.
