RWE to build 45 MW CHP plant in Scotland

21 July 2008 - RWE npower Cogen has announced plans to build a 45 MW biomass combined heat and power plant at Markinch, Scotland.

A £8.1m ($16.2m) regional selective assistance grant from the Scottish government has been awarded to help fund the project. The facility will supply steam and electricity to the Tullis Russell Papermakers paper mill under a long-term contract.

Tullis Russell's paper mill currently uses a coal fired plant to provide the steam and electricity needed to produce its products.

The RWE npower Cogen and Tullis Russell team hopes to secure all necessary approvals by the end of 2008 with the combined heat and power (CHP) plant entering operation in 2011.
