Sweco acquires Bulgarian hydropower consultants

11 July 2008 - Swedish engineering firm Sweco is continuing its expansion in central Europe by acquiring the Bulgarian energy and environment consulting company, Energoproekt Hydropower.

Energoproekt is active in the hydropower sector and also offers qualified consultation services within water and environment.

Per Johansson, managing director of Sweco for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), said: "Through the acquisition we are strengthening our position in a market that is [exhibiting] strong growth. We are also creating conditions for continued growth in Bulgaria and in neighbouring Balkan countries."

This acquisition means that Sweco will have approximately 1100 consultants in Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. This operation has undergone substantial growth in recent years. Three years ago, Sweco had approximately 100 employees in the CEE region.
