Power Machines' hydro contract in Iraq reinstated

8 July 2008 - Iraq's Ministry of Energy has given the green light to finance the long-awaited Al Adaim hydroelectric power project in northern Iraq. In 2001, OJSC "Power machines" of Russia won the contract to supply all equipment, but due to the subsequent hostilities the contract was suspended.

The scope of the contract includes the supply of two hydraulic turbines, four rotary shutters, two hydrogenerators (each with a capacity of 13.4 MW) and auxiliary mechanical and electric systems for the plant. In addition, Power Machines will carry out the installation and startup of all plant equipment.

The customer of the project is General Company for Electric Projects, which is part of the Ministry of Energy of Iraq.

Shipment of the equipment will be completed by November 2008, with commissioning of the Al Adaim hydropower plant planned for July 2010.
