2 July 2008 -- FPL Energy said it will propose a $2 billion wind turbine farm in North Dakota that would have a generating capacity of 1,000 MW, according to a report by the Associated Press. Construction would cost around $2,000/kW.

FPL said the proposed wind farm would consist of 667 wind turbines covering 250 square miles in North Dakota–reportedly tripling the size of North Dakota's existing wind power capacity facilities.


FPL Energy said it filed a letter of intent with North Dakota's Public Service Commission to build the project. The company said it intends to submit a formal application in July 2009 and it hopes to have a construction permit in place by May 2010.
